Ted Roddy & the Talltops
Ted Roddy & the Talltops
Austin-based Ted Roddy has his roadhouse credentials stamped with an uncommon number of musical styles ranging from blues to rock-n-roll, Tex-Mex to soul, country to pop. His big voice and soaring harmonica has been rockin' clubs, bars and juke joints since the 70's, in and around Texas.

The Corpus Christi-born Roddy was drawn to the music world at an early age, listening to the great honky tonk singers of the late 60's on his mother's radio and taking in the latest Elvis feature at the local drive-in.

He currently performs his brand of Texas rock-n-roll with the harmonica-driven Backwoods Hipsters.

In the early 80's, Ted was lead singer-harp player with the Dallas-based blues band Mark Pollock and The Midnighters. In 1983, formed Teddy & The Talltops with Jim Heath (aka Rev Horton Heat). The band continued in various configurations for over a decade. Voted Best Roots Rock Band in 1987 by The Austin Chronicle Readers Poll.

In the early 90's was lead crooner-bongo player for the popular neo-lounge side project, The Naughty Ones. In 1996 formed The Tearjoint Troubadors, fine purveyors of Cocktail and Western with Teri Joyce and Karen Poston.

In 1986 created the bi-annual Elvis Presley Tribute show at Austin's Continental Club, commemorating The King's birth and passing.

As a recording artist he has released records of his own as well as recordings under the name of Teddy & The Tall Tops, The Tearjoint Troubadors, The King Conjure Orchestra and The Naughty Ones.

As a session harp player he has worked on records by Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Dale Watson, Charlie Robison, Stephen Bruton, Candye Cane, Chris Smither, Sunny Sweeney, Augie Meyers, UP Wilson, Omar Kent Dykes, Jello Biafra, Chris Gaffney and Dave Alvin among others.

He has been featured on tribute records honoring Buddy Holly (w/ Danny Barnes and produced by JD Foster), Sam The Sham (with The Naughty Ones), Joe South (produced by Rob Douglas). and Buck Owens (performing on record with The Jordanaires...thanks Casper).
