Ulrich Ellison & Tribe
When Ulrich Ellison left his native Austria for Austin, TX, almost ten years ago, he was a classically trained prodigy who was determined to become the next Quincy Jones. He became proficient in piano as a teenager and his singular talent earned him a place at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where he fell in love with the guitar and developed the muscular, bluesy, funked out style that would become his trademark. After recording his debut album and playing in several pop and rock groups in Vienna, his life took a sharp turn when he was offered a Fulbright
Scholarship to study Jazz Guitar half way across the world at the University of Texas in Austin. Accompanied by his wife Sabine, who would later also become his partner in music, he took a leap of faith and gave up his life in Austria to pursue his dreams in America.

Since arriving on the Austin scene with almost no money, holed up in a seedy Motel 6, in a strange land, Ulrich has become one of the hottest guitar players and producers in town.

In his first few years in Texas, he formed his own band, appropriately called “Tribe”, released five CDs, including the acclaimed, “Dreamchaser”, and booked more than eight
successful US tours on his own. Ulrich was the winner of three Downbeat Student Awards in the “Blues/Rock/Pop Solo” category while still a student and soon became a
sideman for such Austin luminaries as Nakia and Grammy-nominated singer Abra Moore. Ulrich and Tribe went on to win three Austin Music Awards, including two for “Best Funk/Soul/Blues Live Act” and one for “Best Guitarist”. His group is also one of the very few intercultural bands on the Austin scene that tour internationally. Ulrich and his Tribe have played more than 60 shows in Europe this year alone to support their most current release, “America”. His unique philosophy and point of view as a European turned American inhabit every track on the new album, from “Tearing Down the Wall,” a very pointed take down of America’s current immigration policy and a call for unity to “Between Heaven and Hell,” which explores the struggle to retain hope when the world around us can seem so dire. Both inciteful and insightful, “America” is a brilliant ode to a time that forces us to choose love over hate, hope over despair, and unity over division. With blistering tracks and pitch-perfect songs, this is Ulrich Ellison and Tribe’s most masterful work to date.

Ulrich Ellison and Tribe are returning to Antone’s “Home Of The Blues” to celebrate Ulrich’s 37 th birthday, with friends Abra Moore, Tommy Shannon, Nakia, Alan Haynes, Mark Del Castillo, Alex Ruiz and more.
